Funding
What does the PFA Fund?
During the 2010-2011 school year, PFA with the support of the Pleasanton Middle School families, our goal is to raise over $70,000. The PFA responds to special requests from teachers and departments to fund specific requests for materials or equipment. These funds raised were used to benefit the school in the following ways:
Technology: The PFA partially funds our school’s Technology Specialist ($5,000). PFA funds are used to upgrade the school technology and these expenditures are annual since software has to be replaced/upgraded and hardware ages. The district used to match the amount we spent on technology-- up to $10,000 annually, but this is no longer the case. We have purchased lab computers, printers, software and Accelerated Math Program Scanners.
Academic Programs and Educational Support: Two additional math and writing sections ($30,000); Extended hours for school library ($10,000); WEB counselors (Welcome Every Body—6th grade orientation) $2,500); Library books ($1,500); and support for Village High School ($1,000). These are just a sample of the items that the PFA supports.
Teacher Salary Supplements: Based on the success of our fundraising for the past year, PMS PFA is able to help supplement the Technology specialist provided by the district and to help supplement the Math Skills by two segments.
Student Directory: The PFA creates and sends the student directory to all PFA membership. This great e-directory is useful to students and parents for making connections within our PMS community. We do NOT provide the directory to anyone outside our school community.
Hospitality: Twice a year the PFA provides refreshments for Honor Roll reception. We also like to show our staff that we appreciate them and do so by providing staff lunches several times a year and monthly appreciation breakfasts.
Library: The PFA helps buy books and other library materials of interest to the students and those which support the curriculum. Our school no longer receives any state funds to support our school library.
