What is Education?


Education is referred to as a gradual process of knowledge acquisition. The knowledge is obtained through studying, by following instructions or other practical mechanisms. Education has a permanent impact on a learner's life by influencing their thought process and their ability to achieve targeted goals. With education, one can distinguish right from wrong, while without it, you will be unable to do so. In order to solve problems by becoming inventive, we first need to acquire a certain level of proficiency with some abilities. Education generally brings about positive change in the lives and behaviour of human beings.


The Types of Education and How to Get into Them.


Education is more than what is acquired within the classroom setup. The experiences encountered outside of school equally contribute to one's educational growth. There are 3 main types of education.

a. Formal education

b. Informal education

c. Non-formal education




1. Formal Education


This refers to learning that takes place in a school environment. Here, people get to acquire basic, arithmetic, literacy, and trade skills. Qualified teachers that are proficient in the field of education provide it. This type of education is structured in the form of levels which are namely:

- Kindergarten/ Nursery

- Elementary

- Highschool

- University/ College


University level of education is generally considered a higher form of education where specifically oriented vocational knowledge is imparted. How do you get into it?

Simply enrol in a school, at which point, after completing the mentioned levels, you will be graded and acquire specific certificates.



2. Informal Education


It refers to any form of learning that does not follow a specific criteria or procedure. It is thus neither imparted at a specific institution nor following a designated timetable. In this form of education, one does not consciously input any effort. It may simply involve reading books at a library or instructional site.


Cases in informal education include

- Spontaneously studying about balancing accounts.

- Simply educating a child about numeric characters.

- Not involving charges because it is a casual form of education

- Acquiring some form of networking and life adventures.

- Not having a clear syllabus or timetable.


Non-Formal Education


It essentially comprises adult basic learning, college entry preparation, and adult literacy education. This form of education is meant to impart crucial job skills to people that have not attended the formal type of education. Its examples include:

- Home-schooling.

- Individualized education

- Computer-assisted education

- Distance education.


There is a structure to its imparting whereby it is executed intently and methodically. It is flexibly designed to cater for the unique traits and requirements of the recognized group.
